It's not just desserts

Art isn't the only draw at H'Artful of Fun. Some of the Lexington area's finest chefs, from restaurants like Grotto, Portofino, Serafini, Embassy Suites, the Lexington Country Club, Dudley's, Turf Catering and Martine's, will present more than 30 desserts for sampling.

Maggie Green, editor of the 75th-anniversary edition of The Joy of Cooking; Lexington caterer and cooking instructor Phil Dunn; and Derek Spendlove, chairman of the baking and pastry-arts program at the National Center for Hospitality Studies of Sullivan University in Louisville, will judge the dessert entries.

An apple a day does more than keep the doctor away – it can also keep high blood pressure at bay, residents of Shadow Oaks Assisted Living learned Thursday.

Seniors at Shadow Oaks took part in an exercise session and fruit and juice bar, accompanied by information on the health benefits of assorted fruits, courtesy of Hospice Care of South Carolina. The event was held on Tuesday and Thursday at Shadow Oaks in honor of National Healthy Weight Week.

"This was something we wanted to do to promote National Healthy Weight Week," said Miranda Spurgeon, community relations director for Hospice Care of South Carolina.

Memory fuels Ramos’ fire

There may be no better motivational fuel for a returning high school wrestler than living with a loss on the state title mat in Champaign, and Glenbard Norths Tony Ramos has been filling his tank with that fuel for a year.

I dont want to ever feel like that again, Ramos said.

A dominant Ramos was one of 12 DuPage County wrestlers to win a sectional title at Saturdays Class AA individual sectional at Glenbard North, which he did via technical fall over Prospects Tyler Rossdeutcher at 112 pounds.

Montini led the pack in Carol Stream, getting nine wrestlers to the title mat and advancing 11 to next weekends state finals in Champaign.

Friday night was big, said Broncos coach Mike Bukovsky. We had all 12 guys in the semifinals today, so that round really set us up.

Montini titles came from Colton Rasche at 103, Carson Beebe at 119, Mike Benefiel at 171, and heavyweight Garrett Goebel.
